James Wallace

James is a former Baker Botts L.L.P. partner. He graduated from The University of Texas School of Law (first in class) and Vanderbilt University (Phi Beta Kappa). He studied international law at Queens’ College, Cambridge University. James has deep and broad experience handling complex commercial real-estate transactions, including development, investment, acquisition, and disposition. He has represented institutional clients, national and international development companies, and private entities/high-net worth individuals.

James was the lead attorney for a Fortune 500 corporation in the acquisition of a premier country club and conference center and assemblage of land tracts totaling over 4,000 acres for a master-planned community, including complex transactions with the club operator on matters pertaining to ownership, operations, financing, and new-golf course development.

He had a principal role in all phases of transactional work for a tier-one, national and global real-estate development company, including downtown office/mixed-use projects, equity and debt financing with pension funds and life insurance companies, phased development of office and  industrial parks, and major-tenant leasing.

James also represented one of the largest banks in the United States, negotiating and documenting real-estate acquisition loans, commercial construction loans, and other financings.

He has represented clients in the acquisition, financing, and disposition of high-value and large ranches and land tracts, as well as hotels, apartments, and RV parks.

James has also represented oil and gas exploration/development companies, mineral companies, and frac-sand companies, primarily on transactions in the Permian Basin.

James thrives on making complex transactions understandable and workable for his clients. He is meticulous on details, while understanding the business structure, goals, and economics driving the deal. James knows what is “market.” His experience is a significant value-add for clients.
