Byrd Campbell defends Bogin Munns & Munns as co-president sues firm

Ryan Munns, a former co-president and partner — and son of co-founder Ranier Munns — has filed a lawsuit against the firm and his cousin Spencer Munns, the other co-president and son of co-founder Rulon Munns.

Bogin Munns & Munns’ legal counsel in the case, Tucker Byrd of Winter Park-based Byrd Campbell PA, spoke with Orlando Business Journal about the dispute, highlighting the inherent challenges of blending family and business. “The dynamic is that tension when you have family and business, and you put them together. That’s always a tricky thing.”

According to Byrd, the decision to part ways with Ryan Munns was a simple matter of the firm’s leadership determining a new direction. “At the end of the day, they decided it was best that Ryan Munns not be part of the future going forward and they separated.”

He told OBJ, “In the case of the Bogin Munns & Munns firm, the head was telling the firm to go in a different direction and the heart was like, ‘Wait a minute, this is a family member, so how do we deal with that?'”
